Mk2 and GLV Vehicles

In 2005 the GCRN board expressed an interest in additional service coaching stock. As part of the arrangement, I purchased three vehicles;

Mk2f TSO, MK2f TSO, GLV

These vehicles were obtained from Porterbrook leasing. They had been stored for a short time at the MOD depot at Shoeburyness. They were moved by rail direct from Shoeburyness to East Leake, where they were handed-off to the GCRN. In order to undertake this move, the coaches underwent fitness to run and ultrasonic axle test.

The TSOs are semi-permanently coupled in three-coach sets, the centre vehicles having no buffing and drawgear, this being replaced by a bar coupling.

The total number of vehicles of this type at GCRN is seven, including the GLV.

When they arrived, many of the vehicles had large "Continental Airlines" decals. These were removed by Steve Boulton in summer 2005, and the stock looks far better as a result.

On Friday 17th March the HMRI visited and were extremely favourable towards our plans to use these coaches and the GLV. We also were able to test a number of systems on the same day, including the Central Door Locking, lighting and PA systems with a good deal of success.

The gallery below shows a number of views of the vehicles.

The luggage space in the TSOs is excellent for Disabled accommodation, space to put prams, pushchairs, etc. Excellent for a Heritage railway.
