D7629 Into Service

These pictures depict the first test and service runs at GCR following the internal restoration

First Test Run! D7629 paired with D1705 (for insurance), completed a number of Loughborough - Leicester Test runs.

In the southbound direction D7629 pushed D1705 (as seen here).

During the test runs, D7629 is seen on-shed at Loughborough

Another shot of D7629. This was the first visit to Loughborough since delivery in May 2000.

D7629 arrives at Loughborough - last trip of the day from Leicester.

The pair then worked to Rothley, where D7629 cut-off and went back on-shed.

The first public weekend for D7629 was 14 and 15 July 2001. Here the loco is waiting to come off Loughborough Shed.

The 14th saw D7629 "re-launched". Myself and former owner Martin Bell re-launched the loco in typical manner - bathing the front with Beer!

D7629 ready for the fateful last run of the day - 14th July. The turbo failed on the return from Leicester North. Back to the drawing-board!

Prior to the last-run - a view of the cab of a working locomotive (for the next 40 minutes anyway!)

After the turbo failed, the loco was booked to work a shunt release diagram at Rothley. As low-power moves were the order of the day, the loco worked as diagrammed, failed turbo and all.

Following the fitting of the overhauled turbo on Sat 15th Sept, the loco paired with D8098 on the 13:00 Lough - Leics. This test run was 100% successful!

After all the blood, sweat and tears - D7629 awaiting the "off" on it's first run of the 2001 Diesel Gala. Makes it all worthwhile!
